Summer Science Activities 2019

Summer Science Activities 2019

Available on 24/6 to 09/8

We are XScitEd”, a team of Chemistry educators, with experience in teaching the beautiful science of chemistry. As our name suggests, we are excited about chemistry and science in general and our vision is to transmit our knowledge and enthusiasm in young children.

Our aim, “to transmit knowledge utilising safe, fun and interactive approaches that put science in the hands of young children and make discovery and acquisition of knowledge a seamless journey of discovery”.

“XScitEd” has organised and prepare a series of interactive experiments in the following thematic topics – different experiences are available for age groups: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-16. Our program enables children to improve its creativity, imagination, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, while experimenting and unfolding the secrets of nature in a creative and playful way.

 Meet the Scientists (Ages 3-5)

  • Guess my profession

Through interactive play, children will guess the profession and the scientists involved. Children will have the opportunity to meet the scientist and ask questions on the everyday life of each science professional

  • Introduction to the Scientific Method

Children will be introduced in the process of everyday problem solving through the scientific method. Asking questions, constructing a hypothesis – experimenting – inferring and reaching a conclusion thorough a series of simple activities.

Nature of Matter (Ages 3-5, 6-8, 8-12)

Through a series of experiments children will be introduced the particulate nature of matter and learn more about solids-liquids-gasses and plasma.

Properties of Matter (Ages 3-5, 6-8, 8-12)

Through a series of experiments children will be introduced to concepts such as volume, mass, density and experiment with phase changes (condensation, precipitation, sublimation, freezing, evaporation and melting)

Chemical reactions (Ages 3-5, 6-8, 8-12, 13-16)

Through a series of experiments children will be introduced to the 4 driving forces of a chemical reaction: (I) formation of water, (II) formation of gas, (III) formation of a solid (precipitation) and  (IV) color change (transfer of electrons).

Colors (Ages 3-5, 6-8, 8-12, 13-16)

Through a series of experiments children will be exposed to questions such as:

What are colours? Where do we get them from? How do we use them? and make a connection between the concepts of chemistry and their practical every-day applications.

 Cosmetics (Ages 3-5, 6-8, 8-12, 13-16)

Through a series of activities children will learn how to make their own cosmetics, such as soap, lip balm, lotions, bath bombs etc. Introduction to their ingredients and properties and conduction of simple DIY recipes that children can experiment with.

    Hi
I could not see on your web page or anywhere which town you are located in.

I am in Nicosia and interested in sending my seven year old grandson for your last week which starts 7 August. Is it too late? He is fluent in both English and Greek.

    My telephone number is 99 64 2880
    Thanks
